Monaco – Work permit and contracts
Employment contracts in Monaco are similar to those in France, although in some cases more flexible.
There are 2 types: a) Indefinite term – Contrat a duree indeterminee (CDI) and b) fixed term – Contrat a duree determinee (CDD).
The employment contract includes at least:
- Name/Surname of Employee and Employer as well as their address
- Position
- Salary
- Contract type
- Trial period (if any)
- Notice period
- Vacation duration/year
There is a type of work permit (Permis de travail) in Monaco. All Greeks who will work in Monaco need a work permit BEFORE starting their new position. It is necessary to change the permit if they change position/employer. The process is quite complicated and the employer’s participation in it is necessary and his responsibility. The position must have been found before arrival in the Principality .
The recruitment of an employee must be approved by the Employment Service (Service de l’Emploi). When a job vacancy becomes available, the employer must contact the above office, which must present (to the employer) potentially suitable candidates from Monaco and the surrounding areas within 4 days. According to the law, “local” candidates have priority .
If the proposed candidates do not meet the employer’s needs, then he can present/propose his own “chosen one”.
