Borrowed Words
Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. at Villa Sauber
A performance by Oriol Vilanova
Performed by Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (in Italian)
Followed by a conversation with the collector (in English)
In Borrowed Words (2016), a collector declares their unconditional love for their collection. The collector openly confides that collecting brings them pleasure. These are sincere words that highlight the blindness and sometimes even painful intensity that connects the collector and the collection. The enamoured person discusses their works object by object with plenty of humor and references to famous songs, as well as surrealist poetry.
Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo has been collecting contemporary art since 1992; three years later, she founded the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, which has now become a renowned Turin institution. She also chairs the Global Private Museum Association, of which her Foundation is a member.
Oriol Vilanova (Manresa, 1980) lives in Brussels. While browsing flea markets, his favorite places for his research, he builds a collection of postcards to create a “thinking machine” that provides the conceptual foundations for his plays, installations, and performances.
Free entry subject to availability, reservation required
