Ettore Spalletti, Azure Shadow, Transparency
This project by Ettore Spalletti (Cappelle sul Tavo, Pescara, 1940) – created especially for the spaces of Villa Paloma – offers a journey through forty works divided into seven environments on the three floors of the villa. The
spaces designed and produced by the artist showcase, in a non-chronological manner, all aspects of his work by presenting important new productions but also historical works from his studio or prestigious private collections.
At Villa Sauber until October 27, 2019
STEP BY STEP, A Look at an Art Dealer’s Collection
This exhibition is an opportunity to pay tribute to an important Monegasque collection and its owner. It is presented to the public for the first time through a selection of thirty-eight ancient and contemporary works by thirty-five artists: severe ones like those of Spinello Aretino and Jannis Kounellis, seductive ones like the canvases of Bernini, Cagnacci and George Condo, or created by sacred monsters such as Pontormo, Gerhard Richter and Lucio Fontana. This project aims to highlight the intuitions and vision of the collector for whom paintings and sculptures make up everyday life.
One collection can hide another.
Restitution of the artist Oriol Vilanova’s residency in a school environment, conducted in partnership with the Department of National Education, Youth and Sports and with the support of the Prince’s Government.
In 2019, the New National Museum of Monaco initiated an artist residency in the Principality’s two middle schools, Charles III and the François d’Assise-Nicolas Barré private institution. The students were invited to reflect on what collecting means and how it can be articulated in an artistic practice. Oriol Vilanova worked between January and June in two 4th grade classes studying Visual Arts. This experience resulted in two works, presented at the Villa Sauber.
